Mainly bred as a hunter of foxes, rabbits, and parasites – locking and killing prey for the poacher – modern Patterdale often guards, helps protect herds from foxes and other predators.
Today, Patterdale Terriers are kept more as companion dogs and family pets thanks to their charming looks and kind, albeit very alert natures.
