When you’re having a baby, many people fear their dog’s reaction. Will the dog accept the new baby? Is it okay to have the dog around? How can I make sure my dog doesn’t get jealous of the baby?

Without knowing the answers to these questions, many people consider finding new homes for their dogs when in fact this is not really necessary.

There are actually only a few basic things you need to do to ensure that there won’t be any problem between the dog and the baby.

When my baby arrived

After my baby was born, my wife was home sitting on the sofa, cuddling our baby. Piper and I was in the car and I was happy to give piper a surprise of our new pack.

We came down from the car and went straight to the house, Piper stood at the entrance to the house for some minutes sniffing knowing something is different in the house.

Everyone knows that dogs comprehend new conditions largely by smell. So I quickly called to Piper to get into the house, he obeyed and was sniffing till we got to the sitting room.

Piper was surprised and went straight to meet our new baby with excitement in his eyes, gave her a doggy welcome to the family.

Wagging its tail for me was a sign of positivity that piper is happy meeting his new sister, he displayed lots of signals by turning round looking at the baby, nervous and happy (omg she’s beautiful).
