The music of rock and roll is almost as American as apple pie. Rock music has its origins in the blues of the Mississippi Delta.
Many British artists, from Robert Plant to Eric Clapton, and members of the Beatles, actually cite American blues music as a significant influence on their music.
Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, was highly inspired by the gospel music that he heard growing up in Tupelo, MS, and later in Memphis. Elvis would tweak his youth’s bluesy gospel music into burgeoning rock music.
Although rock music today is made up of many different subgenres, rock and roll are still influential in other musical styles. It is still incredibly common worldwide.
