One of the best-known facts about the origin of the modern Pomeranian is that Queen Victoria was arguably the biggest influence in the popularization and breeding of Pomeranians.
Before Queen Victoria, Pomeranians existed in very small numbers and didn’t share too many qualities with one another.
However, Queen Victoria was an avid dog breeder and, after discovering the Pomeranian, fell in love with Pomeranians. She bred a great many of Pomeranians, which “standardized” the Pomeranian breed we know and love today.
