Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog) – a native of northeastern Scotland; a cheerful companion, a responsible nanny, and a devoted friend.
Often mistaken for the collie, the Shetland Sheep Dog is basically a miniature version of that working dog. It is also one of the most popular and beautiful breeds of dog in the world.
There are many theories as to just how the breed evolved, but most experts think that they are not direct descendants of the rough collie and that the Corgi breed contributed somewhere along the way.
The Shelties were used for helping on the farm and to guard the home. The dogs were good as watchdogs at cottages and for guarding flocks and herds, as well as herding.
