The Basenji wears a short, fine coat of rich chestnut red, black, tricolor (black and chestnut), or brindle (black stripes on a chestnut background), all with white feet, chest, and tail tip.
The Basenji is cat-like in his grooming habits and keeps himself very clean. He shouldn’t need a bath more than every few months.
Basenjis shed — all dogs do — but the hair is so short and fine that it is not as noticeable as some other dogs’ shedding fur is.
