St. Bernards are loving, calm dogs. Their instinctive friendliness likely compensates for the initial fear of a stranger when approaching such a large dog. However, St. Bernards are equally quick to protect family members they believe are in danger.
Due to its loving, gentle and tolerant nature, despite its size, St. Bernard is good for families with well-behaved children. Known for being extremely understanding and patient, St. Bernards try not to harm the child.
These dogs love to please, which can make training easier than with other breeds.
