It is known that initially smooth-haired and wire-haired puppies were found in the litter of German Pinschers.
From the middle of the 19th century, smooth-haired dogs continued to be called pinschers, and wire-haired dogs were called stable pinschers or rattlers (rat catchers).
The latter soon got the name – schnauzers, which means “muzzle” in German.
