Chihuahuas with a smooth coat have a shorter coat – from 1.27 to 1.9 cm in length, with or without an undercoat.
Long-haired Chihuahuas tend to have softer and longer coats – from 2.54 to 3.81 cm – and may or may not have an undercoat.
Long-haired and smooth-haired Chihuahuas have existed for centuries, but it wasn’t until 1952 that the AKC separated the two.
