They are large, powerful dogs, with a developed chest, long legs, and a muscular build. They gain weight well, have a powerful neck and a flat forehead with a protrusion. The ears are flat, hanging down the sides of the head. The muzzle and mouth are large, with an abundance of folds. The tail is usually docked, although not always, and the ears are left intact.
