By the 19th and early 20th century, the Vizsla was a distinct breed with excellent scenting powers who worked closely with his handler.
During World War I, the talented hunting dog was used to deliver messages.
The Vizsla Club of America was formed in 1954 and the American Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1960.
