The roots of the breed lie in ancient times. In Switzerland, canine skulls were often found, almost identical in structure to the skulls of modern representatives of the breed.
According to researchers, the mountain dog descends from the Tibetan Great Dane and the Roman Molossus: along with the Roman legions, the ancestors of these dogs came to Switzerland.
The modern “version” of the breed was first presented at an exhibition in 1902, after which fans of the breed in Switzerland created the “Dürrbach Club” and engaged in selection work, as a result of which 107 individuals were exhibited at the dog show in 1910.
Despite its impressive size, Bernese Mountain Dogs take root well in apartments.
